Nevärlläjf (Kulturfloristen)

Release :2009  Genre : Progressive Rock

Review by : BigRedMachine

“Kulturfloristen” is Nevärlläjf's debut album. The band, hailing from Mora, Sweden is an incredible tight combo, literally bubbling with playfulness. Their (instrumental) music is a mix between jazz-fusion and progressive rock.
When listening to the album a myriad of influences can be heard. Names like Frank Zappa, King Crimson, UK pops up in my head. Many of the tracks is chock full of twists and turns. From power-chords to melodic jazz and back in a joyful mix. This kind of music can sound tiring if it's not done right, and on some occasions they try to be to clever, but for the majority of this album the band succeeds in avoiding that.

Altogether very impressive and absolutely one of the most captivating albums I have come across this year. Be sure to check out “Kulturfloristen”, out now on the Musea label.

Höst, Junipher Green, Aunt Mary and Ruphus - Concert Review

Date : 2010-08-14   Location : Rock På Torget - Bodö , Norway

Review by Finn-Arne "Tyrefitter" Jörgensen

On Saturday august 14 a dream came true. Four of the best Norwegian progressive rock bands from the 70's together on the same stage !
Junipher Green, Aunt Mary and Ruphus got 1 hour playing time while Höst played 2, 1 hour sets with different line-ups.

Höst started the proceedings with the “På sterke Vinger” line-up and opened with one of my favourites “Fattig Men Fri”. This was an outdoor event and sadly the weather were horrendous. The rain was pouring down, and sprayed the stage with water but despite that, Höst played a very fine set, closing with a great verson of “På Sterke Vinger”.

Next band up was Junipher Green. Only one person, Helge Gröslie was missing from the original line-up. The played song from their critically acclaimed album “Friendship”. This was a band that really was well together. At times the music, a mixture of psychedelia and prog with jazzy overtones was very advanced. Their magnum opus “Friedship” was particularly good and guitarist Bent Åserud proved that he still new his way around the frets.

After that it was time for Aunt Mary. The band that took the stage was also nearly original with amongst others Jan Groth on organ and vocals. Despite being well over 60 years he proved to have a very strong voice and stage persona, and for me he was this evenings biggest positive surprise. The standard was set with a powerful “Stop Your Wishful Thinking”.
“Rosalind” and “Jimi, Janis and Brian” was very well received by the audience. Overall they showed great joy of playing and delivered a great set with fine versions of song like “Joinin The Crowd” and “G Flat Road”. At that time I really felt 1 hour playing time was too short.

Anyway, next band up was Ruphus featuring the 2 vocalist from the first incarnation of the band, Gudny Aspaas and Rune Sundby. The majority of the material was taken from their first two albums “New Born Day” and “Ranshart”. On “Trapped In A Game”, Gudny Aspaas really showed that her vocal power were still intact. A really professional band.

At the end, Höst came up on stage again, this time with the “Hardt Mot Hardt” line-up. This was really something special as they had not played together since 1977. Their performance was outstanding and once again, 1 hour was to short. “Örnkloa” and “Gorobin” were especially good.

All in all a fantastic event. Credit has to go to the organizers who also tried to get hold of “Popol Ace” and “Prudence” for this years festival. This proves that they think big in Bodö.
The weather was awful, but the audience (around 1000 people) didn't care.
Unforgettable
